"Stijn is twenty-three years old and was born blind. His modest apartment is the only place where he can move about freely. He knows his home like the back of his hand—and when he shuffles through his home, furniture and other objects do not stand in his way, but form points of reference. Hidden in the dark, Stijn does not seem to exist for the outside world.
For his project Touch, Peter Dekens (Belgium, 1967), visited Stijn in his home environment. He immersed himself in the world of one blind man, who at the same time represents all other blind people. The photographer chose to take pictures of Stijn not only inside his home, but also in his 'inner world'. Stijn does not need light in his apartment. Day and night pass him by, as do winter- and summertime. For this reason, the photographs in this series are made without any additional lighting. Peter Dekens studied at AKV|St. Joost in Den Bosch. He also works as a web designer"
